American sculptor. Moved with his family to New York in 1921. He became a United States citizen in 1928. At 13 he began taking sculpture classes at the Brooklyn Children's Museum. In 1930-31 he attended the Beaux-Arts Institute of Design in New York. In 1936 he helped found the American Abstract Artists.
